A pipeline right of way (ROW) is a strip of land over and around pipelines where some of the property owner's legal rights have been granted to Piedmont Natural Gas. To identify the existence of buried pipelines within the right of way, Piedmont has installed pipeline markers in the ground at intervals above the pipeline.

ROW agreement

A ROW agreement between Piedmont and the present or former property owner is called an easement. ROWs and easements enable Piedmont to operate, test, inspect, repair, maintain, replace and protect one or more pipelines on property owned by others.

ROW maintenance

Pipeline ROWs are inspected regularly. Foot patrols require access to check ROW conditions, to install and maintain markers and signs, and to clear brush to keep the ROW accessible. In addition, pipeline ROWs are patrolled by air to monitor use and activities and to locate areas that may require maintenance.
