Facts about Natural Gas
Natural gas is a solution to multiple problems including smog, acid rain and greenhouse gas emissions
- The natural gas pipeline delivery system has an outstanding safety record
- Ninety-nine percent of the natural gas we use in the United States comes from North America
- Most (88 percent) of the natural gas consumed in the United States is produced in the United States
- Natural gas supplies nearly one-fourth (24 percent) of all of the energy used in the United States
- Use of natural gas will increase 20 percent by 2030, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
- Nearly 90 percent of the energy produced through natural gas is delivered to homes and businesses for use with natural gas appliances. (Compare to electricity at 30 percent!)
- Less than one-third of the primary energy involved in producing electricity is delivered to homes and businesses for use with electrical appliances
