Wintertime Apple Crostata

Apple Crostata

Recipe:

  • Puff pastry, 12x12” sheets
  • 3-4 Granny Smith apples, diced
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, diced
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Egg wash*

Directions:

  1. Peel, core and dice apples into a ½ inch. Soak in bowl of water and a tablespoon of vinegar and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and brown sugar. Set aside.
  3. Drain diced apples and toss into flour mixture with honey, lemon zest and lemon juice. Set aside.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  5. Lay puff pastry on top of parchment paper on a sheet tray.
  6. Gently pour the apple mixture into the center and leave a 1 ½ inch border on all four corners of the puff pastry.
  7. Brush egg wash along border.
  8. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool for 10-15 minutes and serve with your favorite toppings like vanilla bean ice cream or caramel sauce.
