System Integrity Surveys

System Integrity Surveys are comprehensive leak surveys for your natural gas piping system. They can help find and repair piping system issues before they become problems – helping to save you time and money and preventing potential interruptions to your business.


Our laser-based survey technology relies on line of sight for accuracy and does not require the close proximity of traditional leak detection methods – helping to improve accuracy and dramatically reduce survey time.


BENEFITS

EARLY DETECTION

Customer System Integrity Surveys can identify issues before they become problems, helping to reduce energy losses while increasing system safety.


LIMITED DOWN TIME

With new laser-based technology, leaks can be detected from up to 100 feet, allowing quick surveys of piping systems. Surveys can often be completed while your system is operating.


SAFETY

The unit can detect leaks remotely when access is limited, including surveying elevated piping safely from the ground, and is safe for hazardous environments where a traditional leak detector (with its ignition source) cannot be used.


LOSS PREVENTION

The unit focuses exclusively on detecting natural gas with the ability to find even the smallest of leaks. A small leak of 1 DT per day can cost approximately $8 each day or $3,000 each year (estimate depends on size of opening and pressure).


POTENTIAL INSURANCE SAVINGS

Many insurance companies offer discounts for periodic leak surveys (verify with your insurance carrier).


STAY PROACTIVE

Customer System Integrity Surveys are a preventive maintenance activity but cannot guarantee that leaks will not occur in your system. Surveys are not intended for emergency response to leaks. You should always call Piedmont immediately if you suspect a leak in your system.


HOW IT WORKS

  1. PRELIMINARY MEETING

    We will schedule a convenient time to meet with you and outline the survey process in detail.


  2. LEAK SURVEY

    The Customer System Integrity Survey will be performed at your facility by a third party approved by Piedmont Natural Gas. This process includes:

    • visual piping check
    • code compliance check
    • remote leak detection survey of your property
  3. WRITTEN REPORT OF FINDINGS

    Upon completion of the survey, we will prepare a customized report for your facility.


  4. POST-SURVEY MEETING

    Piedmont Natural Gas will be available to discuss your report and any ongoing system integrity needs. We will assist you in finding a suitable resolution for any issue.


  5. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

    Periodic surveys can be scheduled to provide proactive monitoring of your piping system.
