Wintertime Apple Crostata

Apple Crostata
Recipe:
- Puff pastry, 12x12” sheets
- 3-4 Granny Smith apples, diced
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, diced
- ¼ cup flour
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- Egg wash*
Directions:
- Peel, core and dice apples into a ½ inch. Soak in bowl of water and a tablespoon of vinegar and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and brown sugar. Set aside.
- Drain diced apples and toss into flour mixture with honey, lemon zest and lemon juice. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Lay puff pastry on top of parchment paper on a sheet tray.
- Gently pour the apple mixture into the center and leave a 1 ½ inch border on all four corners of the puff pastry.
- Brush egg wash along border.
- Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool for 10-15 minutes and serve with your favorite toppings like vanilla bean ice cream or caramel sauce.
